India’s No 1 Most Wanted criminal mastermind and terrorist, Dawood Ibrahim is never far from Indian headlines and our collective conscious thought. So when the headlines screamed out the possibility of Dawood Ibrahim having gangrene, all of Indian responded with hopeful anticipation – who doesn’t like the idea of horrible things happening to their enemies! We look at all the reasons Dawood evokes such strong emotions among us Indians:
He may have gangrene
Yes, possibly this hideous, painful and life threatening disease
Media reports about Dawood Ibrahim possibly dying from gangrene delighted many; India’s public enemy No 1 may lose his life; or at least both his legs!
He may not have gangrene
Alas for those who were celebrating, Dawood’s deputy Choota Shakeel said the gangster is ‘fit’. Comments below the news article were filled with disappointment and chagrin!
He is a celebrity
When there are rumors of illness or death of celebrities, these are generally refuted. Dawood’s gangrene rumors were refuted. He isn’t just seen with celebrities, he is a celebrity. QED.
There is actual speculation about who will be his successor
No sooner was the word ‘dying’ seen to be associated with the crime lord, than the speculation as to a possible successor began. It will be the aforementioned Chhota Shakeel; apparently he is aggressive enough. That’s OK then; it’s a frying pan to fire situation for us.
He has Indian politicians on his frequently dialed list
A news report based on the efforts of Vadodra based ethical hackers reveals that calls are frequently made from Dawood’s residence to the numbers of several Indian politicians. So what if we can’t catch Dawood! Let’s catch these Indian politicians instead!
He is India’s most wanted
The government (seems to) want him, the general public would most certainly like to get their hands on him; even the United States calls him a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” but so far, all collective efforts have yielded precisely nothing.
We can’t catch him
We are reasonably sure that he operates a successful and large crime syndicate out of Karachi in Pakistan but try as we night, we simply cannot seem to catch him!
His daughter married Javed Miandad’s son
This also we know: Dawood’s daughter Mahrukh marred Junaid, son of Javed Miandad some years back and that Dawood probably ‘attended’ the wedding via video conferencing but we still couldn’t get him. All this did was, give us another reason to hate Javed Miandad.
Pakistan is protecting him
Actively, through connivance or by feigning ignorance and helplessness – the Pakistani authorities not only refuse to give him up, they actually protect him!
He is a Bollywood film
And therein lies our fatal attraction towards the man. He is a gangster, probably rich as Croesus, has effortlessly evaded कानून के लम्बे हाथ for decades now, dated gorgeous women, was/is involved in cricket and now apparently has branched out into a new ‘venture’ dealing in conflict diamonds. He hasn’t just inspired Bollywood films; his whole life is a Bollywood film! How can he not fascinate us!
