It isn't just the fact that gutka, euphemistically called ‘paan masala’ is terrible for health and a leading cause of mouth cancer in our country. It is also an objectively disgusting habit. The person chewing it will be found spitting a ghastly stream of orange everywhere they go. They will speak indistinctly with their mouth full. So this guy caught everyone's attention off the field at the Kanpur test between New Zealand and India. Indian made 345 in the first innings and NZ were 129 for no loss at the end of the second day.
He can be seen speaking – with some difficulty – on the phone. Then the camera pans to him and the woman with him spots the image on the big screen and they start to wave. This short clip is now viral as 'Gutka Guy'.
The former cricket player and current meme maker also noticed gutka guy.
People who chew gutka have a similar way of speaking – because they have their mouths stuffed with masala, especially between their lower teeth and lower lip.
The woman with him seems to be looking at the guy with some affection.
What tobacco is he chewing?
Though gutka is banned in UP, the state continues to have a high rate of users of chewing tobacco.
Very often people keep such secrets from the family – drinking, smoking, eating meat and so on.
It is difficult to make sense of what is being said when someone has chewing tobacco stuffed into their mouths.
But chewing gutka is still a harmful, disgusting habit
What is the man saying?
…Felt sorry for the woman with the guy. It cannot be pleasant to be with someone who has a disgusting habit.
This one just made me shudder.
He is now Gutka man --- immortalised in memes and there is nothing he can do about it.
After being trolled mercilessly, the guy in the viral video was revealed to be Shobit Pandey. He has clarified that he wasn’t chewing gutka, but betel (supari) and also that the woman with him is his sister. Unfortunately for him the name Gutka Guy seems stuck now.
