Like a lot of celebrities, some Indian business leaders also have large social media followings. For instance, Anand Mahindra has well over 8 million Twitter followers and his posts are widely shared and commented upon. Chairperson of the RPG group Harsh Goenka also has a significant social media following. He recently shared a Twitter post that resonated with a lot of people. Check out his post and then at the end, watch a video response that demonstrates exactly how not to behave.
His list of life lessons includes aspects such as time management, self-care, kindness and the universality of the human experience.
Goenka shares jokes, information about technology, news and views as well as little life lessons such as these.
This tweet speaks about the importance of reading and listening to opposing points of view. It urges people to have the self-awareness to look within and acknowledge mistakes and flaws.
In response, people shared thoughts such as this, which offers encouragement to people to follow their hearts and to realise their true potential.
Goenka’s suggestion that we must make time for ourselves and his observation that we tend not to appreciate the smaller pleasures of life resonated with the tweeple. While making small donations is easy, it makes little difference except to make us feel better. Being kind and fair in all our dealings is more difficult; it is also more meaningful.
This comment agrees that we have to find time to do the things that are important to us and that doing kindness is more important (and often more difficult) than parting with money. Though life is often unfair, it still keeps offering us opportunities.
The tweeple were very appreciative of Harsh Goenka’s list of life lessons; great rules to live life by, they thought.
In this video, a man (a policeman in civvies by the looks of it) opens his car door carelessly and causes an accident with a duo on a motorcycle. And yet, instead of apologising, he starts to hit the person who fell down and proceeds to put him inside the police car: the image of a bully with breathtaking sense of entitlement here! This video also reminds us to act with a modicum of decency and to develop the self-awareness to acknowledge a mistake and apologise for it. Unfortunately, rudeness to people of a lower social rank is seen as a mark of power in our society. Most are quick to take advantage of whatever power and status we may possess.
No one seems to have taught the man in the video that good human being is one who is fair and kind even with subordinates and the powerless. No one taught him not to throw his weight around. He seems to be clueless that in such a situation, he ought to have said sorry and offered assistance to the men who fell off a motorcycle because of this carelessness. Here, clearly, is a man much in need of the life lessons that Harsh Goenka offered in his Twitter post.
