An exciting and spectacular naval event is underway at the Eastern Naval Command at Vishakapatnam currently. From 4th February to 8th February 2016, the Indian Navy’s International Fleet Review will be displaying the Indian Navy’s maritime capabilities and hosting ships from other navies to build mutual trust and confidence. The first two days will consist of the wreath laying ceremony to pay homage to war heroes, a Make in India exhibition, a press conference and the opening ceremony.
On the 6th, the President of India will conduct the fleet review. This will be a combination of Indian naval warships as well as some of the top navies of the world. According to Vice Admiral Satish Soni 50 navies will participate; putting their warships, submarines and more on display. The presence of 24 warships from foreign countries as well as the attendance of 24 Naval Chiefs from various countries has been confirmed. About 70 to 75 choppers including hawk jet fighters will put up a show over the seas.
There will also be participation from the Indian Naval Air Arm, the Indian Coast Guard and the Mercantile Marine. The Presidential Banquet, Indian Naval Band concert, the International Maritime Conference, the International City Parade, CNS reception and closing ceremonies are other events on the agenda. The country’s Prime Minister, all military chiefs, the Chief Ministers from 10 states, and various other dignitaries will be in attendance.
The event that will showcase India’s naval might and latest vessels will be witnessed by some one lakh fifty thousand people from the beaches and about 20,000 from beach road galleries. The last Fleet Review was held in Mumbai in January 2001. This one will be bigger and better and more stunning. Here are some more glimpses of the spectacular International Fleet Review 2016:
