The first time I saw snowfall I was in Gulmarg – at age eight I was fascinated to see those soft fluffy flakes fluttering to the ground. Now there has been snowfall in stunning Kashmir and there were some beautiful images being shared on Twitter:
Locals can tell when it is likely to snow.
It was just a light snowfall but it transformed the landscape.
Many call it the Switzerland of India. However most would disagree. Kashmir has a certain wildness which is quite different from the picture-perfect precision of the European nation.
The more commonly seen images of Kashmir are those of blooming flowers and lush valleys. In winter however, the land becomes bare and more starkly beautiful.
While some parts of the mountains have already had snowfall, other parts experienced their first snow of the season.
This is rather like people in the plains look forward to the first rains of the season.
The first snows can completely transform a place.
The whole place looks like a winter fairy land.
Images from different parts of the region.
This image of the iconic Lalchowk in Srinagar was also shared.
From Srinagar.
These images of little children and bare poplars tell their own story.
And the snowman!
Heavier snowfall in the higher regions means road closures
The snow is beautiful but causes the locals many other problems as well.
Snow is like kindness. It beautifies everything it covers, says this tweet.
There are others facing the harsh weather and making the best of the #Kashmir #Snowfall in any way they can.
