For some India’s 73rd was just another holiday. For some of us, it was a day to pause and think about the lofty ideals laid down in our constitution and to examine how we no longer seem to care about those ideals. For our men and women in uniform, it was another day at work – some manning lonely outposts, some resplendent at the parade and full of high spirits right after. If we were saddened that Bapu’s favourite hymn Abide with Me was dropped this year, tributes were paid by many:
On the occasion of Republic Day constable Lovely Singh SinduriyaThis sings a composition of sub-inspector Ravinder Kumar Sinduriya in this video. The video was shared by The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) which is our border patrol organisations.
Here, ITBP constable Muzammal Haque renders a lovely performance of Lata Mangeshkar’s stirring Ae Mere Pyare Watan.
Kaifi Azmi’s poignant lyrics were sung by Mohammed Rafi, composed by Madan Mohan for the film Haqeeqat. Here Constable Vikram Jeet Singh of ITBP brilliantly recreates the melody –signifying the diversity – the real strength that defines India.
In this, the 75th year of Indian independence, this unique formation of 17 Jaguar aircraft formed the number 75 as part of the fly-past for the Republic Day Parade.
Flt Lt Shivangi Singh is India’s first Rafale fighter pilot and this combatant was a part of the parade this year.
This rousing tradition of the Assam Rifles Regiment again found expression – seen here after the parade – clapping, cheering, foot-stomping high spirits!
This drone formation was seen above Vijay Chowk.
Several celebrities including actors, musicians and singers got together to create this tribute; shared by Harsh Goenka with “Goosebumps #RepublicDay”
Many, especially military veterans were saddened that the hymn, traditionally a part of the Beating the Retreat Ceremony, was dropped this year. People paid their tributes in their own ways – like this.
This was as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas and Lalita Ramdas – because it was Bapu’s favourite hymn.
