If ever there was a pandemic that occupied centre stage on the news and on social media it would be coronavirus (COVID-19). It has everyone worried. People are devising various ways to stay safe, to disseminate accurate and relevant information about the virus. With many parts of the world going into lockdown, there are those who amaze us by their restraint. On the other hand, there are those who amaze us with their foolishness:
Italy is the worst affected after China and is currently in complete lockdown. In Siena, people are doing this to keep up their spirits. There are many other similar videos from all over Italy.
Another video of an Italian trumpet player in Milan has gone viral on social media. The applause is loud and the community spirit on display is beautiful ... goosebumps!
In Italy, the forced confinement seems to have brought out people's creativity. They are finding ways to interact, sing, dance and enjoy themselves --- even if they have to maintain a distance from each other.
People in Italy and Spain being holed up in their homes, they didn’t forget to give thanks to the health workers doing stellar jobs caring for and healing the sick.
This is not just laughable (the Minister said this was meant to show concern and presumably spread awareness) but actually dangerous. This was an unnecessary gathering at a time when we are all advised social distancing.
American tele-evangelists are a breed apart (not in a good way). This remote ‘healing’ is pretty much par for the course.
This viral video from Mexico features another highly avoidable gathering that could propagate the very virus it is supposed to be countering. 'Tis the season for irony it would seem.
These are supposed to be the finest young minds of India, chanting ‘Victory to Corona’ because of an unexpected break? One has to question that claim.
She is doing everything right: she is indoors, away from crowds, offering useful info --- also she is a far, far better singer than the original singer of Havana.
Rwanda has reported people testing positive for coronavirus, but they seem to have their act together.
Ever since Tom Hanks and his wife announced that they tested positive for the virus, the movie jokes have been coming thick and fast.
Late show host Trevor Noah posted this video of the President of the United States doing everything that we shouldn’t be doing in these COVID-19 times: he is in a large, closely-packed gathering. He is shaking hands with everyone when we are advised to avoid physical contact. He is touching the mike repeatedly when we are advised to avoid touching shared surfaces. Clearly, with the Trump and Coronavirus, it is about doing what he says, not what he does.
