The sort of stuff that passes off as a ‘challenge’ typically ranges from the stupidly simple to the simply stupid. The recent Koala Challenge, which is a response to the still-raging Australian bush fires is both a challenge and something for a worthy cause. Here is everything you wanted to know about the #KoalaChallenge:
The koala bear clings to the branches of trees just like this. So CrossFit athlete James Newbury and the FITAID brand came together to create the Koala Challenge.
This is not an easy, silly, narcissistic or dangerous challenge like so many other internet challenges have been so far. Also it’s for a good cause. Each time someone does the challenge and posts a video, $5 is donated to wildlife protection services.
Koala bears have been killed or driven from their homes by the raging fires. People are coming together to rescue these lovely, gentle, vulnerable creatures.
It isn't just that the koala bears are irresistibly cute. They have become a symbol the wildfires that have been raging and of the rescues efforts, because they are native to Australia and have suffered terribly for over a month now.
Many have died, many are just about clinging to life. Mammoth efforts are onto try to arrest the devastating impact of the wildfires; particularly on wildlife; with some species thought to have gone extinct because of this terrible calamity.
Koalas rarely drink water; getting the moisture that they need from the leaves they eat. However the bush fires have created conditions where the little creatures are literally parched and were seen begging for water.
While many well-meaning people have been giving water to the koalas, this could be potentially fatal because of water entering the lungs from being poured from a bottle.
In keeping with the Koala theme, others are creating products that they sell in order that they may donate the proceeds to wildlife relief.
People are doing the Koala challenge in other, different ways --- any way they can.
People took up the challenge also to show off their impressive fitness levels it must be said.
People are going the challenge anyway they can.
But they did not succeed.
This guy was never going to make it, but he’s cute!
The #KoalaChallenge also give people couples goals.
The koala challenge is not a new trend. There was been a #KoalaChallenge around since at least a year. However, while earlier it was just an internet challenge, now it was come to mean something; is seen as trying to make a difference to the terrible global tragedy that continues to unfold down under.
