Lockdown In Maharashtra? Or Not? The Tweeple Seem Confused

We in India have been schooled to be extremely wary if not outright terrified of a political leader when he is set to speak to the people via an evening TV address. We were very badly off after such an address on 8 November 2016 and then again in March last year. Similar was the address by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 13 April in the evening. Soon #MaharashtraLockdown was trending – though it is not being called a lockdown.

The address

The CM spoke at length about what would be allowed and not allowed and people were given some time before the implementation of the strict measures.

Some approved

They felt that the Maharashtra CM seems to be taking action that is currently required.

Some had their own concerns

In the comments below the live stream, people were commenting about their alcohol needs and asking about the CM’s video filter. One person was asking for the CM to speak only during the MI IPL match break. And one person wanted Amazon and Flipkart to be shut because his sister kept demanding stuff.

And this

Apparently lockdowns are bad for romance, as this comment explains.

And some…

…Just want to go to Goa.

#MaharashtraLockdown

If it looks like a lockdown, sounds like a lockdown and feels like a lockdown, it is one.

What?

There were many who thought it was all very confusing and contradictory.

Or is it?

Cyrus Broacha explains in this deliberately confusing ‘explanation’.

The interpretation

“Close but no cigar.”

Patayto / potato

Lockdown by another name – or rather no name, felt some of the tweeple.

This guy must be worried

Sonu Sood had played an important role in arranging for migrant labourers to go back home during last year’s lockdown which had been announced with four hours’ notice and followed by a complete shutting down of all public transport.

Too strict?

Or not strict enough?

Some precautions

Some people decided to take some precautions and to stock up for the days ahead.

Already indoors

Basically, the idea is to ‘break the chain’ of contagion by having as little people-to-people contact as possible. Some, already working from home will find that this makes no difference to them.

Some are worried

The restrictions are going to affect a lot of people and their livelihoods.

Very worried

A lot of the marginalised populations are literally wondering how they are going to keep body and soul together.

Meanwhile some

This time around, domestic workers will be permitted to go to work and public transport is open for essential requirements

Chill

A lot of the tweeple are quite chill about #maharastralockdown till the end of the month --- we’ve lived through much worse last year. For the people of Maharashtra, this too shall pass/
