Maggi noodles are arguably the most beloved and most widely available convenience food in India. Zomato head and founder Deepinder Goyal announced that Maggi would now be home delivered in ten minutes. Previously, when Grofers (Brinkit) had announced grocery delivery in 15 minutes, this had prompted outrage at company policies that were allegedly exploitative of workers. Some of the same charges were now being leveled against Zomato as well:
At home, you can make it in 2 minutes says the packet. Now you can get it in 10...readymade
Fully expecting people to object to the service because this could put delivery persons at risk, Goyal quickly put out clarifications. He added that this was a response to customer demand and that if Zomato didn’t do it, someone else would.
People are still concerned because it is well known that delivery executives are always in a hurry and often feel the need to break traffic rules just to do their job.
We don’t need 10 minute deliveries, said a lot of the tweeple
Maggi is cheap, quick and easy to make – why would one want to order it from elsewhere?
How lazy rich are you if you do that?
Some just don’t see the need for a 10 minute Maggi delivery service.
Goyal is seen as an innovative entrepreneur and is widely admired.
Of course there were memes.
It is a best friend of hostelites or when people are busy and want a quick meal.
It is available simply everywhere.
The modestly priced packet of noodles recently went from Rs. 12 to Rs. 14 – much consternation followed.
And now Maggi deliveries in 10 minutes – Maggi has been trending quite a bit on social media recently.
