Our world has changed so much in the past two years of the COVID 19 global pandemic. We have discovered things about ourselves and people around that we may have been better off not knowing. People have reacted differently to the exacting circumstances in the coronavirus. We've seen Jugaad, also some positive stories, and some very interesting lockdown related stories. Now, more than two years on, Shanghai has gone into strict lockdown. People are literally screaming and crying from their houses and it is creepy AF!
People have been confined to their houses, not allowed to leave for any reason whatsoever. It started with a couple of people, now everyone is screaming say reports.
Is this what people imagine hell sounds like, I thought to myself – lucky I don’t believe in an afterlife.
People are not allowed to leave their homes even for emergencies, or to walk the dog, or to take out the garbage. After videos started to circulate, the authorities stopped sealing homes from the outside, say reports.
According to some, this just some kids ‘having fun’ – referring to the noise as weeping or screaming is paranoia they say.
Apparently there are drones flying around and telling people to comply with COVID restrictions, not to open the window or sing and to “Control your soul’s desire for freedom.”
There have been reports of water and provisions running out, older people being left alone without any support. There is this video of a guy who is clearly at the end of his tether
We have actually seen in the past year that the pain caused by strict lockdowns has actually outweighed the possible benefits of controlling transmission. We have also seen that good adherence to mask use & social distancing, and getting vaccinated are actually more effective than lockdowns. Ventilation is actually vital; which the strict lockdown in Shanghai is actually preventing.
People cannot even visit the supermarket and provisions are running low so why don’t they just walk out of their apartments? There would be thousands of people living in these large high rise complexes. What would the authorities do if people just walked out all together?
It is a military dictatorship where everyone is told what to do and not do. It is a surveillance state where everything one does or says is made note of – if it does not suit the state, they can lock up a person and throw away the proverbial key. This is should be a light bulb moment for those who think a strong leader and an all-powerful, controlling and punitive state is a good idea. The biggest admirers of authoritarian states are also the ones who see nothing wrong with a state that tramples on the human rights of its citizens with impunity. Those that believe such strictures are for the ‘greater good’, are the people who do not live in those authoritarian states.
