I remember driving along the roads of Punjab years ago and seeing a motorcycle rider standing on the seat and riding his bike. I saw him more than once and was struck by the daredevilry each time, which admittedly endangered other road users. Recently a similar video went viral: of a guy sitting sideways on a driverless or rather a rider-less motorcycle. It attracted even more attention when Anand Mahindra shared the tweet:
We see his guy nonchalantly sitting sidesaddle on the pillion seat of a motorbike; in the middle of a highway; a big smile on his face. “How is this magic possible? By the mercy of the almighty? Great!” we hear a voice say.
This guy is one up on the other one – he’s happily speaking on the phone while he sits sidesaddle on a driverless motorbike. ‘Tesla bikes launched in India,’ says the caption.
As an innovator and one of the richest men in the world, Elon Musk has many ambitious projects such as the driverless car. The guy on the bike isn't what he means I imagine; nor does he expect electric cars to be charged via a diesel generator
Musk announced with great fanfare that his Tesla electric vehicles would soon be coming to India. This tweet wonders whether he’s still interested, after seeing how advanced Indian road users already are.
Our intrepid rider is conspicuous for not wearing a helmet or any kind of protective gear, points out this tweet. A pothole or other obstacle or even a bit of uneven road could have disastrous results.
Road safety rules and regulations? Most Indian road users have not even a nodding acquaintance with those – why single out this fellow?
He added a caption referring to the old Bollywood number musaafir hoon yaaron.
What did I just see, asked some of the tweeple.
Some wondered whether this video was edited to cut out the actual person riding the bike.
Mahindra generally receives a lot of fawning praise and appreciation for his tweets. This time however people pointed out that it didn’t behove the country’s leading auto manufacturer to appear to endorse such irresponsible behaviour.
A lot of people were not amused by Anand Mahindra sharing the video of the driverless motorcycle rider. They felt that an influential person sharing something like this could impact impressionable minds, and encourage others to perform such silly stunts.
