One of the famed attractions of Hollywood is the Walk of Fame; which covers 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard. This was established back in 1958 and today there are more than 2600 of those characteristic five pointed stars embedded in the pavements honouring actors, musicians, filmmakers and even fictional characters. Now this unique and unusual way to honour talent is also in Dubai. Here is everything you wanted to know about the Dubai Stars or Dubai Walk of Fame:
The construction giant and lifestyle developer EMAAR, announced Dubai Stars earlier this year. The entity responsible for top attractions such as the Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, The Dubai Fountain, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Fountain, Dubai Opera etc. now brings us this Hollywood style attraction.
The stars will be located along the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. With most visitors visiting Downtown Dubai for its various attractions, this will be something new for the millions of visitors that the UAE and particularly Dubai attracts each year.
It is planned that there will be about ten thousand stars in all; about four times as many as there currently are on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The first phase of the Dubai Stars will feature about 400 stars. Eminent personalities from the spheres of films, music, architecture, art, literature and sport will feature here. An online campaign will ask people to nominate their ‘stars’.
The Lebanese fashion designer, specialist in bridal couture and a favourite of the red carpet regulars was the first to get his star on Dubai Stars. Also one among the first confirmed stars is Ensan Akhtar, the famous Saudi singer; who also lent a hand to the Dubai Fountain playlist.
The Indian star was one of the most nominated of the Dubai Stars and was also among the first to have his own star.
Probably one of the most beloved footballers in the world, Lionel Messi is another international star who was nominated by the people to be a Dubai Star.
M S Dhoni, the former Indian cricket captain and arguably still one of the most beloved names in world cricket was another obvious choice to be a Dubai Star. Gibran Kahlil Gibran – journalist, writer, poet and illustrator – is another international name that will feature in the Dubai Stars.
