Comic book creator, writer, editor and publisher Stan Lee passed away of pneumonia on 12 November 2018 at the age of 95. He was the legendary creator of some of the most iconic superheroes ever – Spiderman, Ironman, Thor, the X Men, Hulk, Black Panther and numerous others that made up the Marvel Universe. Fans deeply mourn the loss of a highly original creative force and a feisty, quirky human being who was known for his amusing cameo appearances in superhero films.
He created characters that caught the popular imagination and created dedicated fans all over the world; spawning an entire superhero industry: films, TV, merchandise. He had a huge impact on popular culture and will be remembered as the legend he was.
He created a fantastic, incredible universe; peopled with characters such as Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Wolverine, the Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Avengers, the Defenders and more. It is his seemingly limitless imagination and his visualisation of the multiverse that held so many in thrall.
Stan Lee was inspiring not just for the many fascinating reel characters he created but for his real life. This ‘master of living’ is mourned by fans and celebs and anyone who worked with him over the years.
Spiderman is the superhero we've seen arguably in the most number of successive avatars. Spidey fans are particularly desolate today. But then so are Thor fans, Ironman fans, Hulk fans.... the list goes on.
Fans feel that there should be some fitting way to commemorate a life as prolific and incredible as that of Stan Lee. Perhaps this is a good idea?
Rather like Alfred Hitchcock who would make brief appearances in the films he directed, Stan Lee also made it a habit to appear in films he helped bring to life.
This is one example of the sort of cameo he would appear for; and one of his most popular ones according to fans.
Reports confirmed that he had already shot for the Avengers 4 cameo, so fans will be able to catch one last glimpse of the inimitable Stan Lee for one last time.
Lee acknowledged the filmmakers and actors who added so much to the characters he created; and really brought them to life.
The blockbuster Avengers film saw the disappearance of many of the universe's top supers. Spidey dematerialised right after they were heard to be saying, I don’t feel so good.
Stan Lee was the hero who made other heroes come true! He molded popular culture and impacted numberless lives. His imagination literally built an empire and his is a legacy that will live on for a very long time to come. As one tweet said, “Heroes come and go, but legends like #StanLee never die!”
