Many of us are wary of the groups of monkeys found so commonly in our cities. They invade homes, steal /snatch food and are sometimes aggressive enough to attack and even bite humans. However, it was a reasonably calm and composed monkey that decided to take a ride on the Delhi metro. Thankfully, the other people in the metro were calm and composed too. Take a look:
We can see the monkey doing its own thing: climbing here, checking out the door over there, deciding to sit beside some random guy and reaching up to look out of the window as well. This appears to have been at or around the Yamuna Bank metro station.
The voice of some guy, presumably the guy shooting the video can be heard to tell the man to be careful, the monkey could bite. This is perhaps a domesticated monkey, says the voice and also suggests that the monkey be made to wear a mask.
The official Twitter handle asked for some more details about the Metro monkey. Some thought it was shameful that a monkey managed to get into a metro coach.
The location of the station is above ground and appears to be close to a restricted forest area. As such it would be easy for an animal to wander here by mistake and difficult to prevent an incident like this.
The monkey seems quite unfazed by the strange surroundings. The monkey explores its environment; seeming most curious about it all.
The monkey was lucky the metro wasn’t crowded so it didn’t bother any fellow travellers. Not only did it get a seat, but it also got a free ride.
The tweeple were most amused by the monkey inside the metro and joked that this was a DMRC’s attempt to keep commuters entertained.
The metro monkey has made the TV news for taking that free ride on the metro; a ‘Simian Surprise’ Mirror Now calls it. We wonder what people are more surprised about – the fact that a monkey is riding the metro or the fact that the monkey seems better behaved than some human commuters?
