Illusions are fun because they challenge us and tell us a little bit about how our brains work. Whether it’s one thing that looks like another, coloured images that look black and white or the same sound that sounds completely different to two different people, these intrigue us. Now there is a viral picture of ‘half’ a girl that is sending everyone crazy:
The image features a little girl who is only half visible. She seems to be sitting in the middle of a path but half of her is not visible. What are we actually looking at?
Some were puzzled and then annoyed that they couldn’t make it out.
People were trying but they just couldn’t figure out how this picture was possible.
Please help me see it, said a lot of the commentators.
Someone helpfully made some illustrations on the image to explain.
However it still wasn’t clear so people explained: the girl is standing on the other side of a wall that looks the same as the path, which is what is causing the confusion.
Someone helpfully zoomed it to help see where the wall ended and the path began and how the girl’s elbow is actually placed on the top of the wall.
Sometimes Photoshop can help.
Someone even drew a rudimentary little diagram to explain how this optical illusion happens.
Those who couldn’t spot the trick felt anxious until others explained. Then they felt better!
So did this guy lose his legs in a fishing accident?
Where are those cars going? Like half the girl – there is a simple solution: the camera is shooting from the roof and so it seems as though the cars are disappearing.
