If you're on social media, it’s quite likely you’ve seen some of the content created by The Viral Fever Videos or TVF – funny videos, web series, funny, satirical songs, social commentary, standup comedy and more. Now however, you're probably hearing about TVF in an entirely different context. We look at why TVF is in the news, and what the connection is with recent molestation charges.
It is the online digital entertainment channel that enjoys very significant success. With well over 2 million subscribers, it attracts top talent as well. According to the channel founder, the idea was to reach out to a younger demographic. The channel has done well in achieving this avowed purpose with web series such as Permanent Roommates and TVF Pitchers.
He is the company founder and CEO. On 13th March, a blog post created anonymously under the user name Indian Fowler, made certain allegations of molestation.
“Right from Pitchers to Tripling, I was molested. Be it in parties where Arunabh would try to lift me or would try and fall on me pretending he is drunk”, said the post about Anurabh Kumar.
Soon other skeletons appeared tumbling out of the metaphorical closet. The anonymous post received responses that seemed to indicate that TVF wasn’t the safest place for women; that molestation in the workplace was a frequent event here.
A Facebook post by Reema Gupta, a former associate or Kumar, said spoke about inappropriate touching and other harassment she faced.
TVF issued a response to this, stating that all allegations made are “false, baseless and unverified”. The statement also said that TVF takes pride in keeping the workplace safe for men and women and that the author of the article would be brought to “severe justice” for making false allegations.
As more stories and molestation allegations continue to pile up in the matter, Twitterers have had their say. It has been noted how, instead of saying that the charges of molestation would be investigated, TVF appears to have actually threatened the writer of the blog post.
