UAE Tops Mental Wellbeing Index – Here’s Why

In today’s stressed, fast life, mental wellbeing is very important but increasingly difficult to maintain. In such a situation, the UAE has had the distinction of being found to have the highest mental wellness index in a study conducted in 94 countries. Here is what this means and why UAE performed well on the index:

The study by Soul Sanctuaries

The study was conducted by Soul Sanctuaries which is a luxury healthy holiday company offering meditation and yoga retreats, fitness holidays, spa breaks and detox programmes. Travellers and seekers can choose from a range of personalised chic Asian hideaways in India, Bhutan, Thailand, Bali and so on.

Mental Wellbeing Index

While some countries are known to have spiritual lifestyles that contribute to wellness, Soul Sanctuaries examined wellness by taking into account certain facts and figures. Life balance, coping mechanisms for stress, and holistic health were some of the things that the study looked at.

UAE tops the list

Out of 94 countries examined, the UAE was found to have the most favourable factors that contribute to mental wellness. When various parametres were examined, UAE was found to have the highest score of 28 out of 30. This was followed by Indonesia, Mongolia, Kenya, Thailand, Israel, Iceland, Malta, Canada and the United States at no. 10.

Criteria for calculation

Aspects such as hours of sunshine, social life, nature, kindness, mental health and happiness were examined and ranked to arrive at the conclusions.

Hours of sunshine

The number of hours of sunshine per year is a significant contributor to mental wellness, it was found. The UAE enjoys 3508.7 hours of sunshine each year; which is almost 50% of each year!

Beauty of natural assets

According to the report, UAE also scored high on the beauty of its natural assets such as pristine deserts, scenic sea cliffs and inviting mountains.
