Millennials and Gen Z are quite scornful of social media platforms such as Facebook (too primitive apparently). Their platform of choice is Instagram. They tend to have a low tolerance for any changes and each Instagram update is met with irritation, anger and heartfelt cries to bring back the previous version. The most recent 10th birthday update is no different; sparking annoyance and a lot of memes.
Different coloured icons, various colours in chat, a shopping update, a story map, wellbeing updates are some new features.
The in app messaging feature has apparently suffered the most tweaking – coloured themes are added, one can react to messages and so on.
…Hate everything about the new update.
Namely the Direct icon.
Some are wishing they hadn’t updated their app at all.
Those that updated the app probably expected different features from those that they actually received.
Users are angry with Mark Zuckerberg.
We never asked for the update, said the acutely irate Instagrammers.
Remember what I said about Instagram users looking down on Facebook? Well, that.
…Is now Messenger.
Everything looks the same – ever since Zuckerberg took over, they say.
What was he thinking?
Why fix what ain’t broke!
To be precise what the hell is this?
The update has made everything look and feel too different.
While the app users are up in arms, web users are altogether more sanguine. The changes aren't evident there --- yet.
Don’t care for other reasons.
They added pretty colours – what’s not to like, they said.
Some are not complaining. So now, two things can happen --- a) they’ll roll back some of the most hated new features or at least make older versions available or b) the haters will soon get used to the new Instagram update. It is human nature – we can get used to practically anything. We've gotten used to the Coronavirus... this is just a social media update.
