Just a few months ago, UAE was rated as 'one of the safest countries' in the world. At the time, a report was made based on the perception of visitors and tourists into the country and it was found that the UAE was rated the second safest country in the world. A new report has now rated the UAE as 'the safest country' in the world.
The Index revealed positive findings of the safety and security situation in the UAE. The results were announced at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City on Sunday. According to Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, Lt General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, this is a result of national safety and security strategies that the UAE administration has put into place over the years.
The results of the survey found that over 96% of people feel safe about walking about outside, even at nighttime. Singapore was found to come in second, with 94% people surveyed saying that they felt safe.
Well lighted streets, signage to indicate directions to landmarks as well as the location of police stations help to make people feel safer on the streets. The response system of police patrol cars also helps the police reach the scene of accidents and other incidents faster. Emergency response times in the UAE are second only to New York, it has been found.
The rate of violent crimes such as murder and kidnapping is very low the in UAE and has lowered significantly in the past year. Innovative solutions such as a crime reporting app, which received over 400 complaints, have helped reduce crime.
Recently when a UAE official visited Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh, India, for the 2019 Happy Cities Summit, he found that this would be among the most sustainable and happiest cities in the world and this reinforced the goal of making Dubai a happy city. Government agencies serving people properly, using technology, rethinking urban design and creating economic, social and environmental sustainability helps to create happy cities and communities.
In actual terms, a livable city is one which has active, wide streets and a good mix of residential and commercial as well as entertainment options. Cooperative communities, good economic opportunities and a good social life all contribute to happy people. Other aspects of livability are sustainable mobility such as when cities are pedestrian and cyclist friendly; with well developed public transportation systems. Affordable housing and compact cities, low air pollution, parks, gardens and manageable traffic also make these more livable and safe for people.
