When last year’s lockdown was imposed, many weddings were postponed. Many of those took place recently when close to the end of the first wave, we saw a spate of weddings. Now again people are postponing weddings, but in some cases, the heart wants what the heart wants. So where on the one hand we had an appropriately distanced varmala ceremony, in another we had some unusual bridal outfits.
On 19 April, the groom tested positive for the coronavirus. However, this couple decided to go ahead with the nuptials – with some adjustments made to the bridal outfits and the outfits of those around: the addition of full PPE kits!

What’s the all-fire hurry, the tweeple wondered. Surely the two could have waited for a few days to tie the knot.
The money already spent, possible astrological or numerological exigencies may have caused families to go ahead with this.
Even the virus would be stunned thought the tweeple.
This is irresponsible behaviour and a misuse of resources at this time, thought a lot of people.
The bride and groom are socially distancing so they are using bamboo poles to garland each other in this marriage. And they are masked --- all other taam-jhaam of décor and bridal finery seems to be unaltered.
That is quite a risk they are willing to take, felt some of the tweeple.
This commentator felt that the bride and groom seemed to be avoiding some electrical hazard – they should just have waited for a bit to get married.
There was social distancing between the bride and groom at the wedding but what is the point of it all? Perhaps this was just another way to add some novelty to the wedding ceremony; perhaps some bright idea of a wedding planner?
Postpone it or do it in a simple way, suggests this tweet. This is sound advice for any wedding – pandemic or no pandemic.
