Winter Is Nonexistent In Mumbai But #MumbaiWinter Is Trending

When I was living in Mumbai, I remember how for a couple of days in a year, we would suddenly see wool caps and mufflers appear as if by magic. A few people would arrive in the office clad in warm jackets – because they commuted all the way from Virar, where it’s practically snowing, they tell us. So when the temperature drops a bit in Mumbai – Delhi people would barely notice – #MumbaiWinter memes happen:

#MumbaiWinter

It’s different.

Don’t judge them

They have only a few days of the year when they can wear their ‘hill station’ clothes in town.

It is like this in 'winter'.

Boasting rights

These few days of the year give Mumbaikars boasting rights.

It’s a beautiful day!

Mumbai people were quite overcome with joy – cool winds, clear skies and the ocean!

But there are dangers

Mumbai folks are ill-equipped for this. They don’t possess sweaters, caps, blankets, jackets

In the North we are used to this

In Mumbai, they are not.

There are challenges

Things are different – things like bathing.

2-3 days

Winter descends on Mumbai for a few days each year.

It is rare for temperatures to dip in Mumbai – when that does happen, people make the most of it.

Kahwa!

The story every year

Brrrr!

Seriously?

A bonfire? For warmth? In Mumbai?

It can happen

Sometimes they switch off their fan and A/c in Mumbai.

This!

When they switch off the fans in Mumbai locals, that is really something.

And do this

They bring out the sweaters and shawls from the mothballs.

For a while

For some days, Mumbai doesn’t feel like Mumbai and people are determined to enjoy #MumbaiWinter.
