For a common man, retirement comes at the age of 60 but for a cricketer, it comes as soon as he turns 35. So, does that mean he cannot be around cricket anymore? Well, maybe some players settle for retirement and find other options after 35, but these 5 players broke all the rules and made a great comeback in cricket after retiring from their respective teams.
1. Shahid Afridi
The man who retired the maximum number of times in the history of cricket, Shahid Afridi has also made successful comebacks as well. First, he retired in 2010 when he was made the captain of the test side after a single match loss. Then he played in the World Cup and retired after semi-final loss and then a few months back after the T-20 World Cup loss. Every time he retired, he came back with a bounce and retired again.
2. Kevin Pietersen
In May 2011, Pietersen announced his retirement from limited overs cricket because of issues with his coach and England Cricket Board. After a few months, he came back and said he is totally devoted to cricket again and is ready to play. Well, he really made his fans happy.
3. Imran Khan
Retired after 1987 World Cup, Imran Khan is the most successful Pakistani captain till date. At the request of Pakistan’s president, Imran made his comeback at the age of 39 and led his country to the only world cup victory in the year 1992.
4. Carl Hooper
Hooper was one of the greatest players West Indies has ever seen but his retirement before 3 weeks of the World Cup came as a surprise to everyone. But, he came back in 2001 and led WI in the 2003 World Cup.
5. Javed Miandad
The first player who ever played in six World Cups, Javed Miandad is one of the most successful batsmen Pakistan ever had. He had the quickest comeback ever as he made a comeback just after 10 days of retirement.
