When the men in blue are playing an international series, the Twitterati always has its collective gaze on the proceedings --- there is so much meme fodder there! With the India-West Indies series ongoing, the tweeple had a lot to say about the way that K L Rahul acknowledged his ton, about an unwanted record by both team skippers and Rishabh Pant. Currently, the three-match series is evenly poised with the West Indies having won the first match by 8 wickets (Ind 287/8 and WI 291/2) and Indian winning the second match by 107 runs (Ind 387/5, WI 280 all-out)
In the second match, Virat Kohli scored no runs. His West Indian counterpart Kieron Pollard did the same. Now, this is a record that is impossible to break.
This had to have hurt; particularly since Rohit Sharma made a masterful 159 off 138.
The two openers seemed to have a stranglehold on proceedings. Both scored centuries so Kohli’s duck didn’t matter much.
His quick-fire 39 off 16 balls helped keep up the momentum to steer India to a mammoth total of 387.
He scored 70 off 88 in the first match and a rapid 53 off 32 in the second ODI against WI.
A lot of cricket fans feel that several other players are losing out to Pant; that his patchy performance doesn’t merit a place in the team.
He is capable of flashes of brilliance, they felt.
…Who felt that it wasn’t so much brilliance as opportunism.
For a while now, K L Rahul has been justifying his place in the team. He made up for his poor performance in the first ODI with his 102 (104) in the second one.
K L Rahul's expression when he completed his ton fascinated many. Was he praying? Was he blocking out advice form the coach?
Remember Rahul’s ill-advised appearance on Koffee with Karan along with Hardik Pandya? Some think that he may have been recalling this.
Some thought this looked like someone coming out after their viva.
Asking for a raise seems to fall on deaf ears. Like this.
This comment indicates that people continue to find reasons to dislike commentator Sanjay Manjrekar.
To self-important relatives who think they know everything.
K L Rahul after his century has become a meme now. Maybe it will become an emoji one day?
