Just when we thought that there could be no cricket format more truncated than T20, they came up with the ten-overs-a-side concept of T10 cricket. Where T20 matches are played out over about three hours, these matches are of just about a 90-minute duration. T10 League is the first ever ICC approved ten-over league and is also approved by the Emirates Cricket Board. This year will see the third star studded edition of the competition and will be held in Abu Dhabi.
The eight teams of the league are: Kerala Knights, Pakhtoon, Sindhis, Rajputs, Punjabi Legends, Maratha Arabians, Bengal Tigers and Northern Warriors. The first two editions of the competition were held in Sharjah following the round robin system followed by the semifinals and finals.
The first edition Kerala Kings defeated Punjabi Legends by eight wickets to win the tournament. Luke Ronchi was the top scorer in the tournament. In 2018, the tournament was won by the Northern Warriors who beat the Pakhtoons by 22 runs. Nicholas Pooran was the top scorer of the tournament.
While the Kerala Knights team that won in 2019 was led by Eoin Morgan, the 2018 team was led by Darren Sammy. The league attracts many of the finest cricket players in the world and offers a star studded lineup for audiences to enjoy a keen tussle.
The T10 League tournament will be held in Abu Dhabi this year and for the next four years as well. The Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium will be the venue for the 2019 season of T10 League. This is the result of a partnership between Abu Dhabi Sports Council, DCT Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Cricket.
Fresh from leading the English team to their first ever Cricket World Cup victory, Eoin Morgan will be one of the biggest draws of the competition this year. He returns as the skipper of Kerala Knights once again, after powering the team to a win in the finals of the inaugural event.
This year the T10 league tournament will be held at Abu Dhabi from 15th to 24th November. This year will be really special believes Mathew Boucher, the Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Cricket. This will be a world-class event that will add to Abu Dhabi’s sporting portfolio and attract even more cricket-loving tourists from all over the world.
