Indian Government Bans 344 Drugs, Including Vicks Action 500

One of India’s most popular medicines for cough and cold, Vicks Action 500 Extra has been banned and will not be available in chemist shops any more.
Apart from Vicks action 500, the Indian government has banned around 344 fixed dosed combination drugs, including two widely used cough syrups, Corex and Phensedyl.
Procter & Gamble’s India unit has discontinued manufacture & sale of its cold & flu medicine Vicks Action 500 Extra, following the ban on 344 fixed dose combinations.
P&G said all its products, including Vicks Action 500 Extra, were backed by research to support their quality, and safety.
In 2014, a committee was set up to review more than 6,000 combination drugs that had entered the market based only on state regulators’ approval. Based on this study, more than 300 drugs have been banned with immediate effect.
