Inspiring Story of Blind Brazilian Surfer Derek Rabelo

Derek Rabelo, aged 23, born with glaucoma, grew up in Brazil's coastal city of Guarapari with a surf-mad father and two uncles who were professional surfers.
According to him, he never considered his blindness as a barrier to the ocean.
When he was 17 years old, his father gifted him a surf board and five years later, he became a professional surfer travelling the world's most famous surf breaks.
Rabello says he can hear sets approaching and can feel his position on a wave by the different sounds of water around him. Touching the wave too helps him to sense its dynamics.
"I imagine thoroughly what the sea is. This thing feels to me like energy and blessings and happiness. The best feeling in the world" - he said.
His story is a straight message for all of us that "You have to believe in yourself. Go chase your dreams and you can do it if you want".
