‘Tis the season to be jolly!' Cooler climes are always more conducive to festive good cheer and people in Bangalore have more reasons to be jolly than most! It isn't just the fact that they enjoy hospitable climate all around the year; it is also the fact that the city hosts some enjoyable events and festivals for people to get involved in. The annual Bangalore cake show is one such event.
It is India’s biggest annual cake show – some say it is the biggest of its kind in the world! One of the big events of the city’s social calendar, it is back this year with its 43rd edition – from 15th December 2017-1st January 2018 at St Joseph School Grounds.
It is quite marvellous, what all can be crafted from edible items such as sugar – the London Bridge, a massive dragon, a beautiful peacock, a lovely life-size princess; even Cleopatra along with depictions from popular stories and festive tableaus. Not to forget a cross-section of a doll's house!
The cake show is the result of a concerted effort by a team led by Mr. C. Ramachandran, baker and cake artist. Also, a major contributor to this endeavour is Manish Gaur – Director, Institute of Baking & Cake Art. Also part of the team is a group of sugarcraft artists, trainers and students. The highlight of this year was a 1200 kg model of the gateway of India
The people of Bangalore can feast their senses on the incredible cakes till the 1st of January. If you have not been to the Bangalore cake show, you probably should!
