Shark Tank is an American reality TV show based on the Japanese reality TV show Dragons' Den. Shark Tank India is based on the same concept; a reality TV format in which would-be entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a panel of sharks or venture capitalists. One of the judges on the show – Ashneer Grover seems to have really caught people’s fancy.
The show started airing in December last year on Sony Entertainment TV and concluded on 5 February 22.
Totally there were 62,000 aspirants for the show. 198 were chosen to pitch their ideas on the show, out of which 67 businesses got deals
In each episode, aspirants pitch business ideas: e-bike rentals, healthy potato chips, detachable sleeves, food freshness detector, disposable urine bag, pickle, belly button shaper…& much more.
A lot of people found the show interesting because it probably triggered some entrepreneurial ideas out there.
…Liked the jargon
Liked the audacity of some of the participants.
Judges (sharks) are potential investors who listen and decide whether the ideas are worth their investment.
Ashneer Grover is one of the judges and his style caught people’s fancy. He is the co-founder and managing director of BharatPe, a fintech company catering to small merchants and grocers.
People seemed to like him /find him entertaining.
He seems to like telling people that they're wasting their time.
– Probably because he isn't yelling at them.
Could be. Human beings find it funny to watch others being humiliated – one of the reasons reality shows are so madly popular.
There is lots of scope for humiliation, I would imagine, given the format of the show.
Some would call it cruel, rude and tactless, while some call him honest.
Sippline Drinking Shields was one of the ideas pitched – no deal.
His criticism can apply to a lot of different situations feel the tweeple - and so there has been a plethora of Shark Tank India memes featuring Ashneer Grover.
Some of the judges are less unkind.
Aman Gupta of boAt, Anupam Mittal from Shaadi.com and People Group, Ghazal Alagh of MamaEarth, Namita Thapar of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Peyush Bansal of Lenskart and Vineeta Singh of SUGAR cosmetics are the other ‘sharks’ on the show.
…But aren't going to get. People are looking forward to Season 2 of Shark Tank India – whenever that may be.
