Thus far, most of what we knew about Swami Nithyananda came from videos wherein the self-styled guru expounds on the theory of relativity, offers to teach cows to speak Sanskrit and boasts about delaying sunrise. In other words we knew about him through social media funnies. Some of us also recalled that the man had been in the news in the past for a sex tape scandal, and accusations of rape and child abuse. Brand Nithyananda is now undergoing a complete overhaul – the man recently fled India and subsequently announced the birth of a brand new nation, Kailaasa.
In this video, we see some of the man's utterances: about ‘me in me’, about how his disciples are a new species, about Sanatan dharma, his deep scientific insight, etc.
Kailaasa.org announces the birth of ‘the greatest Hindu nation’ which seeks to revive the ‘enlightened civilization’. Kailaasa is a nation without borders, created by “dispossessed Hindus from around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries.”
The new country claims to have departments of health, technology, enlightened civilization, education, housing commerce and so on.
‘His Divine Holiness Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam’ – claiming to be of royal lineage and a reincarnation of the divine being Paramashiva – appears to be ruler of this new country.
According to reports, Nithyananda has now declared that he has founded his own country; an island nation called Kailaasa. According to some reports, this new country is founded on an island purchased from Ecuador, according to others, the island was bought from a website that sells islands.
On the Kailaasa website, this image is provided as that of the national flag. The national flower is the lotus and the national tree is the banyan tree. Current reports suggest that Nithyananda and his team are drafting a petition to address to the United Nations, which will ask for recognition of this new country.
These images are circulating online by way of social media forwards, as being the passports of the new nation. One can apply for citizenship and receive the passport which apparently gives “free entry in all eleven dimensions and fourteen lokas, including Kailaasa.” The new nation’s commercial activities will be based on cryptocurrency.
On 20 November 2019, the Gujarat Police said that Nithyananda had absconded from India. This was following his refusal to appear in several court cases that are ongoing against him.
Nithyananda first came into the headlines in 2010 when an alleged sex tape of his along with actor Ranjeetha and another disciple was broadcast by Sun TV. The people in the tape denied its veracity and said it was fabricated. Nithyananda is implicated in a rape case where a disciple accused him of rape over a five year period. A charge sheet has been filed in this matter. The swami is also implicated in crimes relating to cheating, abetment, criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence among others. He has denied everything, said that this is all a conspiracy against him and now has fled the country --- to Kailaasa, a new country of his own making.
Truly, the rich and powerful in India find some really unique ways and means to evade the law and hoodwink enforcement agencies; they manage to continue to live a life of comfort and plenty in their chosen sinecures overseas. Nithyananda is just the latest in a long line of rich and powerful fugitives --- Indian authorities either don’t want to, or cannot seem to do anything about it.
